THE STOCK MARKET GAME POSITIVELY AFFECTS STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

Bismarck, ND - A year-long study conducted by Learning Point Associates found that students who played the Stock Market Game (SMG) scored significantly higher on mathematics tests than their peers who did not play the game. Students playing SMG, a financial literacy program taught in elementary, middle and high schools, also scored significantly higher than their peers on tests measuring their financial literacy. REGISTRATION DEADLNE FOR INVEST ND TEACHERS ACADEMY

Bismarck, ND - There is still time for teachers to register for the 14th Annual Invest North Dakota Teachers Academy to be held July 20-24, 2009 on the campus of The University of Mary in Bismarck. This valuable course will assist teachers in presenting personal finance topics to their students, as well as provide helpful information for their own financial planning. Upon completion of the Academy, teachers will receive two graduate credits through the University of their choice (NDSU, UND or MiSU). The deadline for registration is July 10, 2009. Enrollment is limited to 150 teachers, so apply immediately to assure a spot. Details
STATE STOCK MARKET GAME WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Bismarck, ND - Students from Carrington High School, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit Middle School of Bismarck, and Christ the King Elementary of Mandan have taken first place honors in North Dakota for the Spring 2009 Stock Market Game (SMG). The teams receiving second place honors go to Sargent Central High School of Forman, Dunseith Middle School, and Cathedral of the Holy Spirit of Bismarck. Of the 897 teams and 1,934 students participating in this competition, one of the winning teams increased the value of their portfolio by $85,000. The goal of the competition is to achieve the largest investment gains in their portfolio. Details
TEACHER ALERT - APPLY TO ATTEND INVEST NORTH DAKOTA

The fourteenth annual INVEST NORTH DAKOTA TEACHERS ACADEMY will be held July 20-24, 2009 at The University of Mary in Bismarck. Sponsored by the North Dakota Securities Department, the purpose of the Academy is to provide K-12 educators with both the training and the curriculum resources necessary to facilitate the integration of investor education and personal finance into their classrooms. Bismarck, ND - The North Dakota Securities Department recognizes Sarah Redding, a high school student from Minot Central Campus School, as the North Dakota winner in the Stock Market Game "INVESTWRITE" essay contest. "InvestWrite" is an innovative writing competition, produced by the Stock Market Game (SMG) program that adds a critical thinking component to help reinforce concepts learned in the classroom. Students entering this essay competition, must be currently registered in the Stock Market Game program, coordinated and provided to schools by the North Dakota Securities Department. Details

Bismarck, ND - Students from Surrey High School, Simle Middle School of Bismarck, and St. John Elementary of Wahpeton, have taken first place honors in North Dakota for the Fall 2008 Stock Market Game (SMG). The teams receiving second place honors go to Surrey High School and Cathedral of the Holy Spirit of Bismarck. There were 931 teams and 2,132 students participating in all grade levels of the competition. Winning teams in this competition increased their portfolio by as much as $61,000, which is the goal of the competition. Details
